The Federation of Hellenic Information Technology & Communications Enterprises (SEPE), member of the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA), has submitted four Greek projects for the “2014 WITSA Global ICT Excellence Awards” that will be presented on the 30th of September, as part of the 2014 World Congress on IT in Guadalajara, Mexico.
WITSA was founded in 1978 as a union of 80 Information and Communications Technology (ICT) organizations around the world that currently represent over 90% of the global technology market. WITSA established the biannual “WITSA Global ICT Excellence Awards” that aim to promote the best ICT businesses and users worldwide concerning ICT applications in the public sector, the private sector, the creation of digital opportunities and sustainable growth.
“Public Sector ICT Excellence Award”: SEPE submitted the project of the Ministry of Administrative Reform “DIAVGEIA”, the web portal where all the actions of governmental and administrative bodies are uploaded since 2010. The content as well as metadata is provided for free to the public under the Greek Creative Commons license. Implementing this program has benefited the social and political life of Greece and proved to be a European and international ‘success story’ in the field of technology and open access data, considering the scale of the project, the players involved and the effective use of data.
“Private Sector ICT Excellence Award”: SEPE submitted the project of the Bank of Piraeus for the unification of the systems of five different banks. Utilizing experience from previous unifications, the Bank of Piraeus accepted the challenge of planning the unification in a time period of less than 14 months. From September 2012 to mid-December 2013 ATE Bank, Millennium Bank, the Bank of Cyprus, the Greek Bank and CPB Bank were unified to become part of the Bank of Piraeus’ banking activities.
“Digital Opportunity Award”: SEPE submitted the project of the General Secretariat for Gender Equality of the Ministry of Interior for the “Women and Girls Go Digital” initiative. The initiative aims to bridge the gap of digital capabilities in Greece so as to ensure more women in digital job positions and vice versa, in order to impact on and improve the lives of Greek women and young people, under the Europe 2020 strategy plan for a smart, sustainable and inclusive growth, as well as EU strategies for women in the field of ICT.
“Sustainable Growth Award”: SEPE submitted a project by GLOBO Company, the only company added to the Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Mobility Management Suites. For the first time in 2014 Gartner extended the Magic Quadrant beyond Mobile Device Management solutions (MDM) to include Enterprise Mobility Suites, a sector where GLOBO was already a pioneer with Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM).
SEPE actively supports the Greek nominations for the “2014 WITSA Global ICT Excellence Awards”, with an aim of bringing forward initiatives, applications and business practices that will promote the digital facet of Greece, while highlighting the possibilities of ICT growth.
