The Future Internet Public-Private Partnership (FI-PPP) aims to advance Europe’s competitiveness in Future Internet technologies and to support the emergence of Future Internet-enhanced applications of public and social relevance.
The project is currently in the third phase that builds on technological developments and trials taking place in earlier phases. Seed-type activities generate actual take-up of innovative Internet services and applications.
Many great ideas for apps and services rely on some basic building blocks. FI-WARE ensures that these tools are available to start-ups and small companies, open, fast, interoperable, reusable, and reliable, with no dependence on one supplier. You can try out the FI-WARE tools at the “FI-Lab“. Many apps have already been built using these tools, from warnings about earthquakes to finding the best offers at your nearby stores. FI-WARE will dramatically increase Europe’s Information and Communications Technology competitiveness by introducing an innovative infrastructure that enables cost-effective creation and delivery of versatile digital services, high quality of service and security guarantees.
FI-WARE not only offers open access to these tools but also provides business support, mentoring and the chance to network and share with peers. In addition, from September 2014 there will be €80 million available for around 1300 small businesses and web entrepreneurs using those FI-WARE tools. The money won’t come directly from the EU but via those best able to understand and support start-up needs, termed accelerators. Participating accelerators cover the fields of smart cities, e-health, transport, energy and environment, agrifood, media and content, manufacturing and logistics, social and learning.
Here are some interesting upcoming events around the future Internet and FI-WARE:
The European Conference on the Future Internet (ECFI) will take place 17-18 September 2014 in Munich, Germany and aims at bringing together key stakeholders to discuss how Europe can achieve global leadership in ICT by 2020 through innovative Internet technologies. In this context, industry and political stakeholders will discuss central socio-economic and technological topics of Future Internet infrastructures and services in Europe. The event will present cutting-edge research results on the European Internet infrastructures and services of the future, which have been developed in the Future Internet Public-Private Partnership (FI-PPP).
The FI-WARE Startup Weekend will take place in Milan, Italy 3-5 October 2014. Participants will learn about the FI-WARE enhanced cloud hosting capabilities as well as components, called Generic Enablers (GEs), that provide open standard APIs that make it easier to process data and media in real-time at a large scale, perform analysis or incorporate advanced features for interaction with the user. During the event a number of awards will be issued to the most promising teams.
The ICT Proposers’ day 2014 will be held in Florence on 9th and 10th October 2014 and will include information sessions on how to prepare and submit a proposal, information stands where European Commission officials will provide up-to-date information on the research and innovation topics of the Work Programme 2015 and the content of the calls for proposals, a European Commission ICT information desk, networking sessions organised where potential proposers present their project ideas, booths which will serve as meeting points for people interested in the same research topics and ample space for informal networking and bilateral pre-arranged meetings between participants
