Calcimeters are instruments used to measure calcium carbonate in research or quality control. Currently, the most common types are the ‘Bernard’ or ‘Scheibler’ calcimeters whose measurements are time-consuming and require approximate mathematical calculations by the user, while not taking into account reaction temperatures. These calcimeters are of questionable accuracy, bulky, difficult to use, of reduced mobility and of limited capabilities and features.
FOG II is a novel digital and portable scientific instrument for the measurement of total carbonates in soil samples whose salt content overwhelmingly excels the calcium carbonate. Calcium carbonate plays an important role for soil structure and quality and significantly affects soil pH and cation exchange capacity. Therefore it controls many chemical reactions related to nutrient availability for plants and mobility of elements in the soil.
The major advantage of FOGII is the use of a multi-sensor, which combines simultaneous measurement of pressure and temperature. In addition to the measurement of temperature, the instrument has a built-in module for automatic temperature compensation in order to perform measurements with higher accuracy. The FOGII calcimeter is low cost, accurate, precise, automatic, rapid, reliable and easy to use. It has a wide range of applications and can be used by soil scientists, ecologists, agronomists, farm consultants, farmers, gardeners, potters, golf greens and sports pitches.
