On Thursday May 29 the beautiful island of Corfu welcomed some of the world’s best known scientists on the field of science education, who participated in the 1st International Conference on New Developments in Science and Technology Education – NDSTE 2014 until Saturday May 31.
All the participants admitted that the conference was really successful. Dozens of professors and researchers from around the world, all leaders in their field participated in NDSTE 2014. At the same time, the presence of the majority of professors and researchers of the Département de didactique, Université du Québec à Montréal was noted by everyone as significant. Among the speakers were: Prof. Andrea diSessa (Graduate School of Education, University of California, Berkeley), Prof. Vitor Duarte Teodoro (Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal), Prof. Kathrin Otrel-Cass (associate professor, Aalborg University), Prof. Emeritus Ruth Stavy (Dept. of Science Education, The Constantiner School of Education, The Sagol School of Neuroscience, Tel Aviv University), Prof. Stella Vosniadou and Prof. Chronis Kynigos from University of Athens, Prof. Patrice Potvin (Département de didactique, Université du Québec à Montréal) and Dr. Nikitas Kastis (President of the Management Board at Hellenic Association for Education and president of MENON).
According to the organizers of NDSTE 2014, Zacharoula Smyrnaiou, assistant professor, Department of Philosophy, Education and Psychology, University of Athens and Martin Riopel, professor, Département de didactique, Université du Québec à Montréal, the conference was the first step in the creation of an international forum on recent scientific discoveries in the field. At the same time, NDSTE 2014 was a great opportunity for networking and collaboration of researchers from around the world to promote innovative ideas for further research in related scientific fields. NDSTE 2014 was co-organized by Science View, just a few weeks after the 1st World Congress on Geriatrics and Neurodegenerative Disease Research, GeNeDis 2014 which was also organized in Corfu by SV.
NDSTE 2014 had two objectives: The first objective is the sharing of new practices within the area of research in science and technology education. The second objective is to provide international researchers a significant and friendly opportunity to network and collaborate so as to improve ideas and processes.
The conference was structured around five main thematic axes such as:
- Modern Pedagogies and New Technologies in Science and Technology Education
- Interest, Attitude and Motivation in Science and Technology Education
- Neuroscience and Science Education
- Assessment in Science &Technology Education
