Preparing Teachers and Developing School Leaders
2nd International Summit on the Teaching Profession

Education ministers, national union leaders and accomplished teachers from 24 countries and regions with high performing and rapidly improving educational systems will meet in New York City to discuss strategies to develop school leaders and to prepare teachers for the delivery of 21st century skills, and to prepare teachers to work and succeed where they are most needed.
The OECD, U.S. Department of Education and Education International (EI) will host this second International Summit on the Teaching Profession together with the U.S. based National Education Association (NEA), the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards(NBPTS), then Asia Society and WNET New York Public Media.
Confirmed participants include delegations from Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong SAR, Hungary, Iceland, Indonesia, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, the People’s Republic of China, Poland, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.
An OECD report, Preparing Teachers and Developing School Leaders for the 21st Century, will be released at the event on Wednesday 14 March – details of the web briefing at 16.00 CET (15.00 GMT) with OECD Deputy Director for Education Andreas Schleicher follow below, together with details of other webcasts.
The conference is part of an ongoing dialogue among participating countries about best practices in both teaching and learning. In the weeks following the summit, Asia Society will lead host organizations in publishing a summary paper to publicly document insights shared and lessons learned.
