The first of the twelve scheduled national events of PROMITHEAS – 4 (FP7) took place in the premises of the Polytechnic University of Tirana (PUT), organized in cooperation with theEnergy Policy and Development Centre(KEPA – UoA), on the 30th of April 2013 and is considered as successful, meeting all the set standards.
The Conference was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Trade, Economy and Energy, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Water Administration, the Dean of the Polytechnic University of Tirana, UNDP, national stakeholders, banks and the Regional Environment Agency.
Prof. Andonaq LAMANI, Prof. Dimitrios MAVRAKIS, Prof. Altin DORRI, Dr. Altin MARA and Ms. Eleni-Danai MAVRAKI presented the methodology, results and conclusions of the development and assessment of mitigation / adaptation climate change policy portfolios for Albania and the governmental representatives presented additional information related to the topic.
A round table discussion among the project present members (PUT and KEPA), the governmental representatives (ministries), UNDP and the national stakeholders (ProCredit bank) underlined the importance of feeling the mentioned research needs and gaps and also rised opportunities for future business oriented projects, towards the energy efficiency and policy development with emphasis on CDM associated with forests in Albania.
Further to that it was announced that PUT was invited to contribute to the development of the 3rd Albanian National Communication to UNFCCC, due to already gained experience through PROMITHEAS – 4.
Finally it was agreed to investigate of organizing a bilateral scientific meeting between PUT and KEPA on “green energy” issues covering the potential of the Albanian – Greek trans-border region.
